The first part provides important mechanical, thermal, and rheological
properties of thermoplastics followed by an introduction to plastics
processing technology, especially injection moulding, extrusion,
thermoforming, blow moulding, and welding. Afterwards, the focus will be
on tooling technology in plastics processing. In this context,
fundamental design principles of plastic tools will be introduced.
Analytical dimensioning methods will be derived to calculate thermal,
mechanical, and rheological properties of plastic tools. Finally,
numerical concepts – mainly based on the finite element method – are
explained to perform simulations for plastic tools. During the
exercises, both the analytical and numerical concepts are applied to
plastic tools.
