Course Description:
This course aims to provide students with the necessary skills and language competences to reach B2 level. Subject- and practice-oriented material will introduce students to situations and topics from the subject of mechanical engineering. Students are also welcome to make suggestions on topics for inclusion in the course. Effective strategies for language learning (e.g. vocabulary acquisition) will be addressed during the course.
Areas of Focus:
Acquisition of independent / competent language use in written and spoken form: Training and improvement of the four language competences (speaking, writing, reading and listening comprehension); grammar revision; increased specialist mechanical engineering vocabulary.
Assessment:
Graded Certificate:
- Regular and active participation (maximum of two missed classes)
- Completion of course-related tasks
- Final written exam on 01.02.2014. (120 Minutes, 56.25% of the course grade: reading comprehension, listening comprehension and written production - each 18.75% of the course grade)
- Presentation in class (10 minutes + questions): 18.75% of the course grade
- 1 Credit for 1 SWS self-study on Moodle (25% of the course grade; compulsory in order to pass the course!)
UNIcert II (Technical English):
In order to have this course recognised for UNIcert II (Technical English), students must extend their presentations to 15 minutes + questions.
