In this course, we will analyze various aspects of globalization, its history and its advantages and disadvantages, with particular reference to economic fundamentals, but other aspects can also be included. Students can largely decide for themselves which dimensions they find most relevant at the moment. Ultimately, we want to bring together statistics and research literature on a current issue in working groups.
Possible research areas could be:
- Global migration flows and reasons for migration
- Global inequalities and shifts in national economies - does trade make you rich?
- International capital flows and their role in growth and development
- The role of cities and regions in a global economy
- Political aspects of economic development - what are the benefits of tariffs?
- What does globalization mean for national and local labour markets?
