As a medium somewhere in between theatrical performances, movies, traditional forms of literature and play, larps comprise a variety of participatory experiences in which players assume characters and become agents in a narrative that is told through participation.
In the course, we will first approach this relatively “new performative art” (Mackay 2001)* from various angles, see how cultural topics are negotiated and literary works adapted in exemplary larps, examine settings/game worlds, characters, narration and other distinctive features of these immersive experiences. You will then learn how to make use of larp techniques for various purposes and create your own very short larp.
