Overview of content and procedure:
Experimental and simulative investigations of turning a Steel Material
Within
the scope of the laboratory (M.Sc. MB/MMT), the machining of a steel material
is firstly investigated experimentally using turning tests with different
cutting parameters and secondly by 2D-finite-element(FE)-chip formation
simulation. For
this purpose, literature and tutorial videos for setting up and executing the
simulations will be provided.
The whole laboratory is run through in groups
which are formed randomly. Please coordinate your work in the groups in
good time and divide the work contents sensibly.
The investigations of the labwork will focus on both the resulting process forces and the surface quality of the workpieces produced, which will be measured using suitable measuring devices. In addition, the chip formation, that varies depending on the cutting parameters, will be analysed. The objective of the numerical investigations is to represent the cutting process as realistically as possible by selecting a suitable material model and/or material parameter sets.
A written report is to be drawn up after completion of the investigations. The deadline for submitting the report is eight weeks after the end of the attendance days. In addition, the results achieved are to be presented in a 15-20 minute presentation.Important dates
- Registration period 26.03.2025 (09:00 PM) - 09.04.2025 (09:00 PM) / Withdrawal after registration period results 5,0 grade
