Dealing with literary texts in class is sometimes difficult, always complex, but at the same time a potentially inspiring experience. Often enough literary texts are initially met with rejection and a lack of understanding on the students’ side. To show them that the effort is worth its while and that they will be rewarded with new insights is the teacher’s task. Exploring literature together with young people affords enthusiasm and a love for literature, but also knowledge about what is happening when we interpret literary texts – from reading to analysing and interpreting it. And, last but not least, the willingness to let literature affect our lives.

In this course, we will see how different stages in the understanding of a literary text correspond to certain phases of the teaching process and will explore which methods, approaches, activities and tools (conventional and digital) best fit in with the purposes of those phases.
